Calm does not have to mean feeling fine
After a pet dies, people often look for a way to feel normal again. But grief is not a problem you solve in one afternoon. A calmer moment might simply be five minutes when your shoulders loosen, or a morning when you can drink your tea before the sadness arrives.
Those moments count. You do not have to be cheerful to be caring for yourself.

Try one small anchor
Choose something simple enough to do on a hard day: open a window, take a slow walk, make a warm drink, or sit with one favourite photograph. Repeating a small ritual can give the day a gentle edge when everything else feels unfamiliar.
- Keep the goal small and specific.
- Let memories arrive without forcing yourself to tell the whole story.
- Ask someone you trust to sit with you, even if neither of you talks much.

Make room for both love and rest
A quiet day is not a betrayal of your pet. Rest does not make the bond smaller. It gives you enough room to carry the bond without asking your body to do everything at once.
If eating, sleeping or getting through ordinary tasks feels impossible for several days, or you feel unsafe, please contact a health professional or a crisis support service. You deserve support that is bigger than an article.
You do not need to create a Heaven or write anything today. When you are ready, one photo or one memory can wait for you there.
When you are ready, create a free Heaven for their photos, memories and the people who love them.
